CONDUCTING A RESEARCH ON YOUTH INTEREST IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND LEARNING BASIC BUSINESS SKILLS, COCA-COLA, 2023
Young people are the most active part of our society, quickly responding to changing living conditions, generating and embracing new ideas, and easily mastering technology, which is extremely important for economic development. Research into youth interest in entrepreneurship is particularly important in the context of individual self-realization, society's innovative potential, and the country's development as a whole. That is why Coca-Cola Belesteri initiated this study of youth potential entrepreneurship, obstacles to young entrepreneurs, in order to identify the most important trends and challenges in this area.

One of the objectives was to assess the scale of youth unemployment and the NEET category—young people neither in education nor employed. The government is strengthening its support measures for these young people; reducing the NEET rate is one of the youth policy targets. According to national statistics, young people who are not studying or working make up 7.1%[1], but according to the results of this study, the NEET category reaches 13.7% – twice the official figure.
Overall, this study of Kazakhstani youth was aimed at assessing youth interest in entrepreneurship, their areas of employment and plans for the near future, their need for business skills and forms of support.
According to the survey, 18% of employed youth identified themselves as entrepreneurs. The potential for youth entrepreneurship can be estimated at 30%: 13% are established entrepreneurs and 17% are potential entrepreneurs who plan to open their own business in the next three years. The proportion of potential entrepreneurs is higher among young people aged 21-30 (up to 22%).
The results of the study are important from the point of view of practical application and can be used in the development of educational programs and services, information activities, measures and forms of financial support for young people, including in individual regions.
The Sange team hopes that this report on youth interest in entrepreneurship will be useful for the business community, donors, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations in making decisions in the area of supporting youth entrepreneurship.
